Hall
Makeover
The job involved the removal of wallpaper to a landing, hall and
stairs and preparing and painting walls. Also painting and
varnishing of woodwork was required, including 13 doors and 3
windows and re-carpeting of the same within the time constraint of 7
days. A family with two small children were to be away on holiday
for this time and therefore the house was vacant.
The client had already selected the wall colour
emulsion and all ceilings were to be completed in white matt
emulsion. All doors, frames, skirting and radiators were to be
brought up to a high gloss white finish. Stair rails were already
in teak varnish so these were just lightly sanded down and a fresh
couple of coats applied. Removing the wallpaper allowed us to see
the extent of the quality of the walls. These were pretty good and
few holes needed filling.
The gloss was finished 48 hours before the
carpet was fitted so as to avoid any chance of paint being scuffed
by the fitters on the skirting or up the stairs. The job was only
possible by being able to stay over at the property and thus work
later into the evening and start very early in the morning. A
normal allowance for this kind of job would be two weeks.
