Laundry Room
This laundry room was not being utilised to its full
potential as there was a sink unit, washing machine and dishwasher ;
also a free-standing boiler and next to this a chest freezer.
There was a lot of wasted floor space that had become a
dumping ground for anything that did not make it into the main
house.
The creation of a fully fitted airing cupboard was
paramount and next to this a utility cupboard for cleaning materials
and an ironing board.
The countertop was made to cover the washing machine and the
dishwasher affording further space for working in this room.
An indoor washing line that is retractable had been added to
the far wall and can be pulled out for use when the weather will not
allow outside drying.
The airing cupboard is housed behind the four large doors with the
boiler behind the lower left hand side one.
Next to this is a large hanging cupboard and above these two
fully shelved airing cupboards with open shelving.
The six smaller doors hide the lower double height storage
cupboard and a smaller one above.
The doors on the lower cupboard are fixed such that they open
as two doors, not four as they appear. This considerably aids
access. The sizing of
this fitted cupboard is bespoke to the room and constructed in such
a way that it can be fully removed should a change of use be
required at some future point.
Whilst working on this room we replaced both access
doors with new ones that were glazed.
This considerably aided light getting into the laundry room
and also into the kitchen beyond, the provision of a large mirror
above the freezer also helped the diffused light situation.
Naturally fresh bright paint was added to the walls and
ceiling, as well as the woodwork, to again make the room much more
bright and modern. The
original quarry floor tiles were left as there was very little wrong
with these but they were cleaned and treated with a waterproof
sealant to avoid staining and prolong their life.
