Patio Makeover

Upon first inspection of the patio we found there was very little wrong with it other than it looked a little neglected and tired.  The first thing to do was to clear away those items that would be useful and get rid of anything that would not enhance the new and finished patio.

We removed the remaining trellis and took all the fixings down.  Loose paint was then scraped off and any remaining brackets removed before all the cracks and any holes were filled.  The wall was then painted with Dulux Weathershield exterior emulsion using light terracotta for the main wall and bright white for the columns.  New square trellis was then fixed to the two sections of the wall using screws for later removal should the wall need re-painting in a few years.  New hanging basket brackets were also added.

The patio surface was swept and cleaned using a high power pressure hose to remove the grime; any remaining weeds were removed too.  There was very little damage to the surface so no real cementing was necessary.  Three planters that had remained unused were filled with compost and miniature conifers added with some space for other plants later.

A corner piece of fencing was treated and the lower piece of the wall painted in the same terracotta colour.  The rear of the house that was pebbledash had got rather dirty due to overflowing guttering.  This too was pressure hosed and then painted in Weathershield white emulsion.  Soffit boards and guttering were replaced and painted in the same consistent colours.  Windowsills and waste piping were touched in also.

There was very little wrong with the hardwood garden furniture so again this was pressure hosed and left to dry for a couple of days before being painted in Cuprinol Timber Care in Autumn Red.  This was to compliment the wall colour and give the whole area a Mediterranean feel.

The ‘after’ photos were taken two months after the completion of the work once the hanging baskets and tubs had established themselves.
